15 hours ago  With COVID re-establishing our society’s reliance on technology, one Maple Valley children’s book author wants to get back to the basics — reading out loud during story time. “Let’s Play Pretend ” is Scott Field’s first children’s book, which was released at the end of March, and he geared it specifically toward encouraging.   I am a huge fan of Anna Quindlen so I enjoyed this book. However, readers should be advised that if they are searching for the more "personal" side of Ms. Quindlen, her writings on life, love, parenting, that we know from her "Life in the 30's" columns or "Living out Loud" book, they might be disappointed by the heavily political and social commentary in this by: 1.

Growing Out Loud: Journey of a Food Revolutionary is an uncompromising, unapologetic polemic. It is also a tutorial woven around the memoir of K. Rashid Nuri’s career in agriculture. This book describes the life and times of one food revolutionary, whose food odyssey began during the turbulent s and continued through the innovation-driven new millennium. Unfortunately, while I find many books amusing, funny, entertaining, and grin-worthy, there are a very select few that can elicit actual laughter in me – the prized laughing out loud ('LOL', I believe the kids call it) is a rare and precious gem.

Laugh Out Loud works hard to sell kids on the magic of reading, but this ends up being a bit like the bland "broccoli books" Jimmy and his friends scorn. The repetitive plot is jammed with trite sayings seemingly plucked from motivational posters: "A kid who reads is a kid who succeeds," for example, and "Once you can read, you are forever free!"3/5.   Books were prized for being shocking or funny or, even better, both, and the promise that a book would make the reader “laugh out loud” seemed entirely plausible. Why not? It happened all the Author: Guardian Staff.
